Born in 1999 in Tbilisi, Georgia, Elene Melikidze is a visual artist whose practice moves at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, where emotion, silence, and memory converge. Based in Tbilisi, she draws from memory to explore individuals within their surrounding world and the shared undercurrents of collective consciousness.
Her practice centers on oil painting, occasionally extending into acrylic and charcoal to create atmospheres charged with psychological tension and stillness. Melikidze conveys emotional intensity through the transfiguration of human facial expressions, where forms and features shift, reflecting the fluidity of perception and feeling. Her technique moves between delicate, controlled strokes and bolder applications, adding texture and emphasizing key elements within each composition.
Her works emerge through layering, erasure, and restraint — gestures that mirror the shifting terrain of memory and perception. Mentored by Georgian-born German conceptual artist Gia Edzgveradze, she continues to cultivate a distinctive voice within the new generation of Georgian painters. Her work has been presented in several group exhibitions in Tbilisi and abroad.
