Born in 1998 in Tbilisi, Georgia, Ioanna Tsulaia is a multimedia artist whose practice explores the relationship between material, form, and visual language through serial investigation. She lives and works in Tbilisi.
Tsulaia studied Painting at the Visual Arts and Architecture School (VA[A]DS) of the Free University of Tbilisi. Her work develops through an ongoing engagement with diverse media, where intuition and conceptual structure operate in parallel.
Material sensitivity lies at the core of her practice. Working across unconventional supports and substances—including polyethylene, photographic surfaces, and textiles—Tsulaia approaches material as a site of research rather than a neutral carrier. Text also functions as an autonomous medium within her work, appearing as fragmented notes or poetic structures alongside visual form.
Through painting, installations, and mixed-media works, she investigates the body, personal space, and socio-political context, treating form as fluid and continuously negotiated. Tsulaia has presented her work internationally, including her first solo exhibition in Geneva in 2021. Her works are held in private collections in Georgia and abroad.
